Polyimide – the super engineering plastic from COMCO EPP

Material
Polyimide (PI) is referred to as a super engineering plastic because its performance characteristics go beyond the range of conventional high-performance thermoplastics. The operating temperature range extends from -269 °C to +400 °C, covering cryogenic environments through to extreme high-temperature processes. For comparison: PEEK operates up to 250 °C, PEI up to 170 °C. Added to this are high wear resistance, a stable friction level, very good electrical insulation and inherently flame-retardant behaviour without additives.
Grades
Polyimide is available in five grades: Polyimide N (natural, unfilled base grade, highest purity), Polyimide G15 (15 percent graphite, self-lubricating), Polyimide G40 (40 percent graphite, maximum dimensional stability and very low thermal expansion), Polyimide MoS (molybdenum disulphide, for dry running in vacuum and oxygen-free environments) and Polyimide ESD (electrostatically dissipative, controlled surface resistance).
Product forms
COMCO EPP supplies polyimide in the precision sheet format 360 x 320 mm and as rods from 2 mm diameter, also suitable for miniature precision components. Cut-to-size blanks and CNC-machined finished parts to drawing are produced in-house.
Applications
Electronics and electrical engineering, aerospace, semiconductor manufacturing, automotive, medical devices, and precision bearing and sliding elements in mechanical engineering and heavy industry.
